INTRO -
ASEAN stands for THE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH-EAST ASIAN NATIONS , it is an intergovernmental organization . It was established in 1967 at Jakarta, Indonesia.
BODY-
Earlier it was established by five South-East Asian Nations i.e. Indonesia, Philippines , Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia. Currently there are 10 member states in this council which are -
- Indonesia
- Brunei
- Philippines
- Thailand
- Myanmar
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Cambodia
- Vietnam
- Laos
If ASEAN were a country ,it would be the 7th largest economy in the world.
If we talk about the ASEAN summits then we have-
- 2003 ASEAN summit:
In 2003 ASEAN summit, the leaders of the ASEAN had resolved that ASEAN community should be established and due to this there are 3 major pillar of ASEAN communities i.e. ASEAN Political- Security community , ASEAN Economic community , ASEAN Socio-Culture community .
- 2019 ASEAN summit:
On March 1st , the 10th meeting between the ASEAN- US joint cooperation committee took place in Jakarta,Indonesia . Both the parties confabulated about crime, cybersecurity , development.
- 2020 ASEAN summit:
On the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN , The vision for 2020 of ASEAN is to promote economic inclination towards up, living in peace, stability and developments among the member states.
Implication-
- The main purpose of ASEAN is to bring unity among all the nations on the basis of their same culture and identity.
- To grow the economy by creating the exclusive(single) market and free trade.
- Stability on the basis of political and social culture.
- To develop the infrastructure as well as to help each other in the researching , education ,health and other training .
- To discuss about the different fundamental issues like trade , climate change, economy, health, global warming, terrorism, corruption etc.
- To act as a stabilizer in the South-East and East of the Asia.
